Creating DIY cemetery flower arrangements is a beautiful way to honor a loved one’s memory with fresh seasonal colors and thoughtful design.

In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a DIY cemetery flower arrangement for spring using silk flowers and a floral foam cone. It’s beginner-friendly and a lovely way to add long-lasting blooms to a gravesite.

This particular arrangement was extra special to me—my mother asked me to create it for my grandparents’ gravesite. I was able to whip it up quickly using silk flowers and greenery from my craft stash, which made it both meaningful and budget-friendly.

It reminded me how these simple designs can carry so much love and memory, especially in the springtime.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Floral Foam Cone – Choose a size that fits securely in your cemetery vase or cone holder. This one I used came from Walmart.
  • Sticky Backed Sheet Moss
  • Silk Flowers – Spring florals like tulips, daisies, peonies, hydrangeas, lilies, or roses
  • Faux Greenery – Ferns, ivy, eucalyptus, or boxwood for fullness

DIY Cemetery Flower Arrangement for Spring: Step-by-Step

1. Prepare Your Floral Foam Cone

Since my mother told me that about one inch of the foam cone would be visible above the base, I added a strip of this sheet moss before starting the design.

2. Begin with Greenery

Insert your longer pieces of greenery first. These form the shape of the arrangement and provide a base for your flowers. Use ferns or eucalyptus, spacing them around the cone to create even coverage and a rounded silhouette.

3. Add Focal Flowers

Now add your largest and boldest flowers, such as peonies, lilies, or roses. I used an azalea bush from Hobby Lobby as my focal flowers. Insert them near the center and allow them to vary slightly in height for a natural look.

4. Fill In with Accent Flowers

Next, insert your smaller spring flowers like daisies or tulips around your focal blooms. These help fill the empty spaces and create fullness. Keep turning your cone as you work to ensure all sides look balanced.

5. Add Final Touches

Fill in any remaining gaps with extra greenery or small accent florals. If you’re adding a bow, secure it with floral wire or a pick and tuck it into the front or center of the design. Make sure everything feels snug and secure.

    Hi Ashley,
Walmart and other craft stores ( including Amazon) sell the containers for the foam you are using. They come in black, white or green. They are cone changed with a sharp piece that goes in the ground. In my area, the least expensive I have found is Walmart.

Thank you for sharing with us.
